To display hidden files on your computer, follow these directions:

Note: Text in UPPERCASE or "phrases in quotes" indicate text
you will see on your computer screen.

1) Open an Explorer window:

Windows XP, Vista, or 7 users:

Click the START button, then click COMPUTER or MY COMPUTER.

or

Any version of Windows:

Press and hold the Windows key. (The Windows key is located in the lower left corner of your keyboard between the CTRL and ALT keys.) While holding down the Windows key, tap the "E" key, then release both.


2) Choose View:

Windows XP, Vista and 7 users:

Click TOOLS > FOLDER OPTIONS > VIEW tab(If you do not see TOOLS, tap
the ALT key on your keyboard to make the menu bar appear).

Windows 8/8.1 users:

Click the VIEW tab or VIEW on the top menu bar.

3) Showing hidden files:

Windows XP, Vista, 7 users:

Check "Show hidden files and folders" (or "Show hidden files,
folders, and drives").

Windows 8/8.1 users:

Check the box labeled "Hidden items"

4) Showing hidden extensions:

Windows XP, VISTA, and 7 users:

Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types".

Windows 8/8.1 users:

Check(if not checked already) the box labeled "File name extensions".

5) Completing the process:

Windows XP, VISTA, and 7 users:

Click "OK".

Windows 8/8.1 users: 

No further action is required.
