Problem Steps Recorder 

The Problem Steps Recorder in the Windows 7 operating system is a feature that enables users to record their interactions with an application and provide a detailed screen-by-screen view with accompanying information. Using this tool, you can record the steps leading up to a problem, so the Support Technician can more accurately diagnose the issue.

Note: Text in BOLD or "phrases in quotes" indicate text you will see on your computer screen.

We recommend you print these instructions before proceeding.

PART 1 - RUNNING THE PROBLEM STEPS RECORDER

1) Click START

2) Type psr in the Start Search field.

3) In the search results, click on psr.exe.

4) You will see the Problem Steps Recorder.

5) Click the START RECORD button.

6) Go through any steps necessary to re-create the problem you are experiencing.

Note: If you want to add a comment, click ADD COMMENT.

The screen will go gray. Click and drag your mouse across the part of the screen that you want to comment on to highlight it. Type your comment in the Highlight Problem and Comment box, and then click OK.

7) When you are finished, click STOP RECORD.

8) In the Save As dialog box, select DESKTOP on the left side as the location you are saving to.

9) Type Problem for the file name, and then click SAVE. A .zip file will be created on your Desktop.


PART 2 - SENDING THE LOGS

OUTLOOK EXPRESS USERS:

1) Click the CREATE MAIL button for a new message.

2) In the email click the "INSERT" drop-down menu and select
FILE ATTACHMENT.

3) Where you see "LOOK IN", select DESKTOP from the drop-down list,
click PROBLEM.ZIP. Click ATTACH.

4) Make the subject line of the email read: PSR LOGS.

5) In the TO: section add the e-mail address SUPPORT@STOPSIGN.COM

6) Click the "SEND" button on the email.


INSTRUCTIONS FOR USERS NOT USING OUTLOOK EXPRESS:

1) Create a new email message.

2) Click ATTACH or ATTACH FILE (there may be a paperclip symbol for
attaching a file).

3) Browse to your DESKTOP, click
PROBLEM.ZIP.
Click ATTACH. (If needed, click ATTACH again.)

4) Make the subject line of the email read:
PSR LOGS.

5) In the TO: section add the e-mail address
SUPPORT@STOPSIGN.COM

6) Click the "SEND" button on the email.
