SCAN DISK - Windows Utility

As you save, erase, and move files sometimes things do not go just right. This is not caused by anything you are doing wrong, sometimes programs collide and mess up each others files. This unwanted, unintentional corruption can result in invalid files, files with lost file fragments, and cross linked files. You don't always know right away when this happens. This is why you should run the Scandisk utility from time to time.

To check the hard disk drive integrity in Windows:

  1. Double-click My Computer, and then right-click the hard disk drive you want to check.

  2. Click Properties, and then click Tools.

  3. In Error-checking, check the boxes for

Automatically fix file system errors.
Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors

4. Click START

You may be required to restart your computer for scandisk to run.

Scandisk will need exclusive access to your hard drive. If prompted to run at restart - choose "YES".
