Safe Mode Disk Cleanup 

 


NOTE: Windows  VISTA does not run utilities in Safe Mode - if you are using Windows Vista and wish to run Disk Clean Up - CLICK HERE for further instructions.


To clear your system of unnecessary files, we recommend you run a disk cleanup in Windows  Safe Mode.

Safe Mode is a Windows troubleshooting mode that loads only the essential software needed to run your system.


When booted in the Safe Mode, the screen images will look different from what they usually do. This is normal.

To perform Disk Cleanup in the Windows Safe Mode, please follow these steps:

We recommend you print these instructions before proceeding. They will not be available to you once you are in Safe Mode.

1) Restart your computer.

2) As your computer is restarting, press the F8 key repeatedly.

3) At the menu, choose either:

SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING:
Windows 2000, XP, Vista ONLY when connecting to Internet via DSL or cable modem choose Safe Mode with Networking.

SAFE MODE
ALL that use Dial-up

4) Click START > PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > SYSTEM TOOLS > DISK CLEANUP.

5) Make sure you check boxes to remove all temporary, deleted, and other files not in use by your system.

6) Click OK.

When disk cleanup is done, restart your computer.
