Safe Mode Maintenance

 


NOTE: Windows  Maintenance utilities are NOT available to Windows Vista users in Safe Mode.

To improve your system performance, sometimes it may be necessary to run some Windows maintenance operations while in Windows   Safe Mode.

Safe Mode is a Windows  trouble-shooting mode that loads only the essential software needed to run your system. When booted into Safe Mode, the screen images will look different than usual. This is normal.

Please print these instructions before continuing. They will not be available after you restart your computer.


STEP 1 - UPDATING SCANNER

1) Ensure you are connected to the internet.

2) Start a scan. Click START > PROGRAMS > EACCELERATION > StopSign > START SCAN. The scanner will check for updates prior to starting the scan.

3) You can stop this scan at any point after you see "Scanning memory" in the Threat Scanner window. Your scanner will be fully updated.

STEP 2 - START IN SAFE MODE

1) Restart your computer.

2) As your computer is restarting, press the F8 key repeatedly.

3) At the menu, choose either:

SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING:
Windows  2000, XP, Vista ONLY when connecting to Internet via DSL or cable modem choose Safe Mode with Networking.

OR

SAFE MODE
ALL who use Dial-up


STEP 3 - DISK CLEANUP

1) Click START > PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > SYSTEM TOOLS > DISK CLEANUP.

2) Ensure to check boxes to remove all temporary, deleted, and other files not in use by your system.

3) Click OK.

4) When Disk Cleanup is done, move to the next step.


STEP 4 - DISK DEFRAGMENTATION

1) Click START > PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > SYSTEM TOOLS > DISK DEFRAGMENTER.

2) Select the "C:" Drive by clicking it.

3) Click the DEFRAGMENT button.

4) When the disk defrag is done, move to STEP 5.

STEP 5 - StopSign SCAN

1) Click START > PROGRAMS > EACCELERATION > StopSign > START SCAN.

NOTE: When prompted to go online, click NO.

The scan may take some time to complete.

2) After the Scanner has finished, please restart your computer.
