What Happens When I Click SCAN NOW?

 

When you launch the StopSign Threat Scanner - the Threat Scanner window will open, your StopSign software will go through different steps to clean and protect your system:

NOTE: If this is your first scan, it may take several hours to complete. This is due to every file on your system being scanned the first time the StopSign Threat Scanner is used.

Initializing Anti-Spyware engine

Scanning files
(Progress bar will indicate advancement of this portion of the scanning process.)

Scan Finished  (NOTE: The number of files scanned changes because StopSign is able to determine which files have been altered since the last scan. To speed the scanning process StopSign will only scan files that have been modified in the last 30 days.)

After the StopSign Threat Scanner is finished, a new window with your StopSign Scan Results will appear - or if infections requiring further action are found, you will be prompted with instructions to begin the cleaning process.

NOTE: You may be prompted to click the "Finish" button to allow the scanner to complete the cleaning process, or you may see a reboot message. If you receive a reboot message you MUST restart the computer for certain infections to be cleaned.

NOTE
: If you are not online, StopSign will ask you if you wish to connect to the internet before continuing. You DO NOT need to be on-line to scan your computer.

If you are on-line when you begin the scanner, StopSign will automatically connect to the eAcceleration StopSign servers to look for any updates that may be available. It is very important to run your scanner while on-line at least once a week to ensure your StopSign has the most current virus cleaners available.
